The use of brick was necessary to tie into the existing facility. The amount of brick had to be limited in order to meet the budget, so the inner courtyard elevations used stucco. The bright colors keep it lively for the school children and their activities. The existing retaining walls at the playground and the preservation of mature trees dictated the curved brick wall. The site slopes significantly to the west and substantial new work was done to improve ADA access from building to playground.
